1st August, Week 2, Term 3
From Our Principal - Mr Sam Irvine
Dear families,
Thank you so much to all of our parents, students and staff for warmly welcoming me into your beautiful school community. Whilst I have definitely slept well each night, I have enjoyed every minute of my time at St Joey’s so far and very much look forward to spending the majority of the term here. I am truly in awe of the amount of work and effort that the staff here put into each and every one of your children, they really do go above and beyond. It really is a beautiful, little community school!
As I have mentioned earlier, please don’t ever hesitate to contact me if you would like a chat or have any queries or concerns (sam.irvine@lism.catholic.edu.au).
NAIDOC
Last week we celebrated NAIDOC with our friends from Coraki CWA Preschool and Coraki Public School. A big thank you to Aunty Binny and Will who helped to organise these events. The students participated in many activities such as indigenous games, cooking Johnny Cakes and painting just to name a few. The students definitely were well fed with sausage sizzles and cake across the two days!
Father’s Day Breakfast Date Change
We have moved the date of the Father’s Day Breaky to Friday 30th August from 7am. We will celebrate this special day with bacon and egg burgers and some fun games to kick start the day. The Father’s Day liturgy will kick off in the church from 9am.
Junior Joey’s
Our Junior Joey’s program will kick off on Friday 16th August from 9-11:15am. The early indication on 2025 enrolment numbers seems quite promising and we are very excited to welcome these children to our Junior Joey’s. If you know of any friends or family who have not completed the online enrolment form, please get them to contact Mrs Ianna in the office as soon as possible. We will help support any parents who need help to complete the enrolment - just give us a call or drop in.
COLA
We are slowly in the process of getting our new covered outdoor learning area (COLA). There have been a couple of logistical hurdles that have slowed things up. We are hoping that this will be completed pretty shortly.
New Carpets
During the holidays we had the carpets replaced in the Stage 2 & 3 classrooms as well as the office. This was further repair work that was needed to be completed after previous insurance work.
Student Wellbeing Officer
We were scheduled to have a Student Wellbeing Officer start during Term 3 and work 2 days a week. This has since fallen through. We are now on the hunt again for someone with the relevant experience and expertise to help support our students in this role at school.
Fun Celebration Day - VERO
Date for the Diary - Friday 20th September. This will be a fun celebration day for the students with inflatable slides, a sausage sizzle and hopefully a coffee van for our families. More info to come.

Mini Olympics
During this week and next, we are holding our very own Mini Olympics to celebrate the Olympics that is currently taking place Paris. The goal of this is to build some fun and excitement around the world’s biggest sporting event and to allow our students to be involved in some healthy competition. The boys are representing the ‘Bahamas’ and the girls are representing ‘Germany’ for the Mini Olympics. They are competing against each other in a number of modified sporting events and have the opportunity to win Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. The winning country will receive a prize yet to be determined by the Stage 3 students.

Mission News
18th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year B
After the feeding of the multitudes, the disciples leave in a boat and Jesus follows them. The disciples are said to be terrified by what they see. Jesus reassures them and rejoins them. In today’s Gospel, we learn that the crowd has noticed the departure of Jesus and his disciples and so seeks them out in Capernaum. In the dialogue that follows between Jesus and the crowds, Jesus unfolds for us the gift of himself that that he gives in the Eucharist.
