29th August, Week 6, Term 3
From Our Principal - Mr Sam Irvine
Dear Parents & Carers,
Father's Day is a special time to celebrate and honor all the wonderful men who play important roles in our lives, whether they are dads, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, or family friends. This Sunday is about acknowledging and appreciating their love, guidance, and support.
We know that families come in many different forms, and we recognise the amazing efforts of all caregivers in our community. If you are someone who plays a role of a father-like-figure in the lives of someone, don’t ever underestimate the importance of this. We also pray for those dads who are not with us anymore and are looking down on us from heaven.
Wishing everyone a happy and blessed Father’s Day filled with love and joy!
Father’s Day Breaky
On Friday 30th August we will hold our Father’s Day Breaky from 7am. We will celebrate this special day with our Stage 3 students cooking bacon and egg burgers, serving tea and coffee and also making healthy salad and meat rolls. Whether you are a dad, a father-like figure, a mum, a nan or a carer - you are all very welcome and encouraged to come along and celebrate our breaky with us. We will hold a Father’s Day liturgy at 9am after breaky.
Book Week
Thank you very much to our school staff for the effort and enthusiasm that went into all things Book Week 2024. I was very impressed with how valued this is within the community; students, staff, parents and the wider community. A big thank you to Mrs Cherie Verrall for all of the hard work, blood, sweat and tears that went into setting the school up to create joy for the kids of St Joey’s!
Indigenous Cricket Day
Last Thursday we participated in the Indigenous Cricket Day at Windsor Park in Coraki which was run by Cricket NSW. Our students thoroughly enjoyed mixing with the students from Coraki Public School and also getting to meet a couple of famous cricket players in Kurtis Patterson and Sammy-Jo Johnston. Thank you to Mr Maslen for organising us to attend this day.
School Party
On Friday of Week 4 we held a whole school party to celebrate Australia’s achievements at the Paris Olympics. This was promised to the students if Australia won more than 17 gold medals which was their previous record. It was a great way to build some national spirit and create some hype around this special event that is held only once every 4 years.
School Fees 2025
As of next year, there will be a slight increase in school fees at all schools within the Lismore Diocese.
At St Joseph’s, school fees will slightly increase by around $1.70 per week.
We fully understand the financial pressures that families may face and we offer flexible payment options to help support individual family situations. If you feel that you will have any concerns or struggles with school fees, please reach out and contact the school. As a truly authentic Catholic school community, we will make sure that we can help to support all families in one way shape or form.

Gospel Reflection for the 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
This Sunday’s gospel Jesus’ words challenge us as well. In our desire to show that we are holy, we might also give too much credence to externals, following rules without thinking about the intention behind them. Jesus reminds us that we do not make ourselves holy by our actions. Rather, we become holy when we allow God’s Spirit to transform us. Our actions should be an expression of the conversion of our heart to God and to God’s ways.

Library News
We so appreciate our school community for supporting Book Week, either through attending the Parade, helping with costumes, donating books or purchasing items through Book Fair. We have again been successful in raising enough to receive $500 worth of books for our library.
We were also very lucky to have a ‘secret’ judge who had a difficult job choosing which costume. Kindergarten were our door winners and Mrs Flaherty won staff costume with her ‘Invisible Man’ with Rabbit (Mr Howard)
Sports News
On Friday, 30th August all of Stage 3 will be attending the Zone Gala Day at Hepburn Park, Goonellabah. The students will participate in a variety of non-competitive sporting activities such as:
